Teaching English as a Foreign Language
Course description:
This course gives the overview of
- the characteristics of a good English teacher,
- methods and media used to teach English,
- lesson planning and teaching management.
Course objective:
After taking the course the students are hoped to
- possess the characteristics needed to be good English teachers,
- able to plan lesson and to create and develop teaching aids,
- able to choose appropriate method and technique for teaching,
- able to manage a class.
Attendance:
- The students should attend, at least, 80% (12 meetings) of the whole sessions including the mid term and final test.
- If the students come into the classroom 15 minutes or more late, they are considered absent.
Assessment:
The students are assessed in terms of
- classroom attendance and classroom participation,
- class presentation/ classroom action,
- reflective journal,
- project assignment,
- collection of reward.
Student’s project:
The students, in group of three to four,
- present a model for teaching certain lesson; write the reflective journal based on it including the pre, whilst, and post classroom action (the journal is submitted a week after the presentation day)
- go to school, observe the teaching learning process of an English class, and write a report (complete it with the documents needed); submit it on the final exam date
- conduct a TEFL seminar by inviting practitioner (‘outstanding’ English teachers) to share expertise and experience. The committee members of the seminar will get extra point for TEFL class

hi mam, good morning.
i want to ask some question for the material that I'll present. teaching vocabulary is not only teach and give new vocabularies for the students, can I combine the material for teaching vocabulary? for example, teaching vocabulary while we teach reading. but the main purpose is to teach and give new vocabularies to the student. is that possible mam? thank you mam.

Oh ya Mam, I want to share about teaching listening I mean I need your oppinion because I have an idea to teach listening for SMP student through song and the song is contained simple present tense. Then I will use completion technique so the students have to complete the missing words on the song text. Do you think that a good idea for teaching listening in SMP ? I really need your oppinion Mam...

- First, yes, of course Argin, you can give vocabulary lesson integrated with reading material. By doing so, you teach vocabulary in context. Sorry for the belated posting...
- Second, Dwi Ajeng, well I personally hope that if you become a teacher one day, you'll become yourself. Yes, you can adopt things from your teachers that you think are good to follow.
- Third, yes you can use that technique for listening class.
